Man Steals Bikes From Pro Women's Cycling Team and Gets 14 Years Prison

Guy steals $110,000 worth of TEAM TIBCO bikes get 14 yrs in prison

Two days prior to the pivotal Exergy Tour earlier this year in the USA, the pro women's cycling team, Team TIBCO, had 13 of their bikes stolen.

While the team was staying at a motel in Boise, ID, on May 22, 2012, their bikes were stolen by Michael Lawrence, 19.

Lawrence cut the lock off of the trailer in which the bikes were being housed and ripped off $110,000 worth of bicycles.

"These bikes are top-of-the-line race bikes, built with top-of-the-line SRAM Red components,” said Team TIBCO owner, Linda Jackson, at the time when they were stolen. “The time trial bikes specifically are very unique and should be easily identifiable. In addition, all these bikes were painstakingly built and fitted to each rider with the help of Specialized. Having this custom equipment back for the U.S. National Championships next month is also critical for every team member."

Lawrence ripped off Specialized Shiv Time-Trial bikes and Specialized Amira road bikes.

The last laugh is on Lawrence as a judge sentenced him to 14 years in prison on Friday.
